Abstract

Agencies in the Ministry of Education play a fundamental role in ensuring quality and equal education to all. Despite the use of supply selection criteria, supply chain in parastatals under the Ministry of Education is still experiencing poor quality of goods and services, which negatively affects performance. Therefore, this study sought to assess the effect of supplier selection criteria on performance of agencies in the Ministry of Education. Descriptive research design was employed in this study. The study targeted 211 employees working in procurement, store and records departments in the 7 agencies under the Ministry of Education. This study made use of Slovin's Formula to determine the study’s sample size. Moreover, the study used stratified random sampling method to select 138 employees from the study population. This research used primary data, which was obtained using semi-structured questionnaires. Thematic analysis was used to analyze qualitative results. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with the support of SPSS version 22. Additionally, descriptive statistics comprised of frequency distribution, percentages, mean and standard deviation. Moreover, inferential statistics including correlation as well as multivariate regression analysis then followed. Figures (pie charts as well as bar charts) as well as tables were used to display the findings. Regression and correlation analysis were then used to determine the association between independent variables and the dependent variable. The study found that supplier selection criteria have a positive and significant effect on the performance of agencies in the Ministry of Education. Therefore, this study recommends that agencies in the Ministry of Education should emphasize on financial stability, adherence to environmental regulations and quality of records during the selection of suppliers.
